Collaborative idea generation for ELT

Here is an excerpt from a very funny cartoon from The Oatmeal, about the different methods a cat tries to get its owner’s attention. Click on the image below to see the whole cartoon.

  1. Hahaha! That was funny. The first idea I had might require some adaptation to the comic itself. I think it would be fun for students to translate what the cat is actually saying into English, but I would most likely cut out a few frames so that it was as tedious of a job (and for those frames in which the cat isn’t ‘saying’ anything.)

    Another idea would be to have the students write a narrative, but that strikes me as a little less interesting.

    You could also possibly have them write a parallel comic in which it is not a cat, but a person . . . I sometimes feel like I have to resort to some of those antics with some people . . . haha.
